MODULE SIX - Child Protection and Helping Traumatized Children
At the end of this module the participants should understand the importance of developing child protection policies to protect children, staff and organizations. They should also understand how to look for signs of abuse and some methodologies in which abused children can be helped.
The module starts with a consideration of the practical skills of discipline for staff and children who belong to a program and of how to support parents who experience difficulty disciplining their children. How adults can share their faith with children is also looked at.
A thorough overview is given to writing a child protection policy including types of abuse, the profile of an abuser, establishing and communicating behaviour protocols and responding to allegations. Child protection concerns as they relate to selection, training and monitoring of childcare workers are considered.
The module also includes a session looking at data collection, research, sources of information and guidelines on setting up a simple database.
